TOM
This blog post, which I wrote the day before yesterday but didn't post yet because I wanted to add some more pictures, was meant to be a happy post. I wrote about my companion Tom, my black and white cat, who likes to be near whenever I'm working. About the way he always sits and sleeps on top of my drawings while I'm illustrating. About how much I love him doing this! It all became a memory yesterday morning, when the animal rescue called because they found him dead, hit by a car. Today I'm so sad. I still can't believe I lost my dearest Tom.

FLOW CALENDAR 2014 WITH LES BELLES DAMES
I'm very proud magazine Flow
asked me to illustrate elegant and strong women like my original 'Belles
Dames' for their new block-calendar 2014! Since this week the calendars
are for sale in most book stores and some well-known luxury department
stores in the Netherlands. I already had a copy at home but this morning
it was the first time that I saw a pile of them in the book store. They
looked so fresh and elegant! We celebrated at Villa Augustus.
On the cover there's natural beauty Emilienne. I drew many new belles dames, sixteen to be exact (so now there are 20), and they all have their own style and personality. You'll find their names and a description of their characters on the last page of the calendar. But of course I will also introduce them to you in later posts on this blog.
Hope you're excited to meet the ladies!

SCREENPRINTING WORKSHOP AT URLAUB
Yesterday I finally visited Urlaub in Utrecht. Not only for checking up on my 'belles dames' at the shop and meeting kind owner Ellen, but also to do a screenpinting workshop hosted by great designer Femke from Windstilte. It loved it! We learned to print simple shapes on fabric. I designed a kind of tribal shape and printed it on a scarf in black. I finished the design with a pattern of small squares in fluor pink. A simple technique with awesome result! Of course I took home a nice DIY screenprint kit. Oh my, my head is full with new printing concepts! I hope I have time for more printing expiriments soon!
A nice thing happened while I was at Urlaub. After finishing the scarf I walked out the working space into the shop to cool down a bit (I always get overheated during creative process!:) and to have a look at all illustrated things. At that moment there was a woman in the shop and it happened to be Maaike, one of my buyers. What a nice coincedence! I was very happy to meet this lovely lady and see the smile behind the name.

GRAND OPENING
LES BELLES DAMES AT GROOS R'DAM
Today I went to bring some of my ceramics to GROOS, a new concept store for Rotterdam art, music, fashion, books and lifestyle products. I'm really 'groos' (= an old Dutch word for 'proud') they asked me to sell my ceramics in their beautiful and inspirational shop.
FASHION FLABBERGASTED
I went to such a fascinating and spectacular exhibition today: 'The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier - From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk' in Kunsthal Rotterdam. When you enter the first hall you're immediately overwhelmed by beautiful religious-inspired dresses worn by mannequin dolls. When you look a bit longer these dolls come alive with interactive faces created by technologically ingenious audiovisual projections. Really a-ma-zing.
In every hall you enter a different world. From marine to erotic and
bondage, from punk to beautiful pieces inspired by non-western cultures.
From the beginning to the end the exhibition is a feast for the eyes
(and for the heart! It's still beating fast writing about it!).
'From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk' will be in the Kunsthal till May 12.
TAPAS & GUACAMOLE
celinda.smiles when friend N. with familiar cream colored ushanka (fur hat with ear flaps) enters the Mediterranean restaurant. Bad weather and slippery roads didn't keep us from travelling to R'dam to enjoy dinner and movies together.
We order some vegetarian tapas but when they arrive at our table we're a bit disappointed cause the portions are very small. We order a few more but it just isn't enough to fill up. Suddenly N.'s eyes twinkle. He carefully looks around and then suddenly reveals his delicious homemade guacamole with pomegranate from under the table. We laugh and eat it quickly, before anyone sees, and leave the restaurant satisfied.
Ingredients:
2 avocados / 1/2 pomegranate / 1 clove garlic / koriander / lime, juiced / teaspoon cayenne / salt / pepper
Try it, it's delicious!
(Even more delicious when you eat it secretly :)

CINNAMON ROLLS
A message on my mobile phone from friend T.:
'Hi Celin, I have cinnamon rolls. Are you coming over?'
I bike through the rain and ring her door at 9.05 a.m.
Although it is early in the morning the candles are burning. T. always lights them, no matter what time it is. I don't know if it's a White Russian thing to do but I love it. It gives a special glow to the moment, like there's no rush. And it makes me feel special.
We sit at the antique dining table. The living room is like a jewelry box filled with things from past times. Lots of lamps, piles of old books, romantic crockery, antique figurines looking at you from every corner, framed portraits of women in white lace dresses. A pair of small angel wings between lots of things in the windowsill.
'Tastes good?' T. asks.
'Heavenly', I say.

TEA SET
At this moment I'm redecorating this romantic vintage set of a sugar bowl and 4 cups and saucers. Last Saturday I found these beauties at an antique shop and I'm very delighted I did cause I already have pot and milk jug in the exact same design in my shop! It feels like a family reunion!

SNOW DANCE
I went to the second hand shop to search for discarded treasures. I danced home in these great Mondrian style shoes, leaving behind a rainbow trail of footprints in crisp white snow.
